Trout on Cotto: If I Have To Get Rough and Dirty, I Will

By Jhonny Gonzalez

WBA "regular" champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14KOs) is very confident of walking away with his title on December 1, when he defends the championship against ex-beltholder Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30KOs) at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Cotto has seen better days, but Trout expects a very dangerous fighter. He won't be overlooking the Puerto Rican's talents as a boxer.

"Although he's been at the top for a long time, Cotto is still a hungry fighter like me. And that makes him very dangerous. The important thing is that Cotto is not a one-dimensional fighter. He can adjust. And I know he will be there in front of me, pushing all night. But I do very well against opponents who look to pressure me," Trout told Jose Sanchez.

"He has a very good jab and he's accurate with it. And of course he has a strong hook to the body. I also have a good jab and I have very good footwork, and [very good] boxing [skills]. A lot of people think that I can't hit, but they are wrong."

Some opponents have called Cotto a "dirty fighter." They say the Puerto Rican boxer has no issues with using rough tactics when he feels threatened in a fight.

"I will use my height and reach. But I will use all of my talents. Cotto is a strong guy and if I have to get rough and dirty, I will. I'll be the complete package," Trout said.

"Against [Floyd] Mayweather he looked great. He didn't win, but Mayweather fought one of the best fights of his career. He made Mayweather look vulnerable and that rarely happens to Floyd. But there were things that I would have did in [Floyd's] place. There were missed opportunities."

Trout is gonna readily outbox Cotto. He isn't even gonna engage. This isn't Foreman.
