TRESSA LINDENBERG, Toowoomba’s eight time queen of the range winner, and 2011 Australian ultra marathon champion (100km) is set to make her debut inside the boxing ring on the undercard of “Smithy brings the big fights 3” on March 8 against fellow Toowoomba runner turned boxer, Vicky Gilbert.
The pair will don the gloves all for a good cause, to raise money for Early Child Development program at Rangeville school which helps pre school children with special needs.
Lindenberg, the sister of renowned boxing trainer Brendon Smith, said while her family has a long history with the sport, she has never been inside the ring herself.
“This is the first time I have ever considered competing” said Lindenberg.
“I am scared but that is all part of the challenge. If I can put myself out of my comfort zone hopefully people will donate and support.”
However the trainer of Vicky Gilbert, Graham Blay of the Blazefit gym in Toowoomba feels that even though the fight is for a good cause, Tressa is in for a tough night.
“We know with all of her achievements Tressa is very competitive and will be training hard to win” said Graham.
“However Vicky is also a competitive person and is training very hard and with her age advantage being only 25 while Tressa is 43 years old we are confident we can get the win.”
“It is for a great cause and these girls are going to put on a great show on March 8”.
This fight will take place on the undercard of “Smithy’s Brings the Big Fights 3”. The main event on the night will be undefeated Toowoomba featherweight “The Great White” Brayd Smith taking on Japan’s Shogo Sakai for the WBF Asia Pacific Youth title.
Also featuring on the night is undefeated Kris George vs Jay Thompson, “Iron” Will Young vs Derek Webber, Josh Webb vs Dale Ryan as well as English import Darren Askew.
Tickets for the event are currently on sale at Smithy’s Gym in Toowoomba at $75 for Ringside and $45 for general and as a special offer Smithy’s Gym is giving away a 5 day gym trial valued at $75 for every ringside ticket purchased.
