According to Top Rank's CEO, Bob Arum, a Thursday morning meeting between company president Todd duBoef, and Cameron Dunkin, who manages WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire - went well. The two sides met to discuss Donaire's working relationship and contractual status with Top Rank.
The relationship between the two sides has been shaky since Donaire, under the belief that his Top Rank contract was invalid, made a decision to sign a contract with rival company Golden Boy Promotions. The two promotional firms were quickly locked in a legal tug of war, as Top Rank was confident that their contract with Donaire was still valid for at least two years.
On March 29th, Arbitrator Daniel Weinstein issued a ruling which enjoined Golden Boy from promoting Donaire for the duration of his existing contract with Top Rank.
"Todd met with [Dunkin] this morning. Todd thought it was a good meeting. Cameron, I guess, thought that it was a good meeting. There are other people involved. Whatever comes of it, I don't know. Beyond that, I'm not going to share anything while this is going on. You don't negotiate that way and you can't negotiate that way," Arum told BoxingScene.com.
