You have to give Tony Luis credit. The combat-ready lightweight from Canada continues to seek the toughest challenges, even at the risk of adding another loss or two to his record. It was that fighting mentality that led to the 27-year old drawing the short straw in the hunt for an opponent to face unbeaten Karl Dargan. The two collide Friday evening at Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, Conn., airing live on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights. “It is never easy to get an opponent for Karl Dargan but Tony Luis jumped on this opportunity, which is always a sign of someone ready to win,” notes Jolene Mizzone, Vice President of Operations for Main Events.

Karl Dargan is deep in training for his January 30 showdown with Canada’s Tony Luis. The bout headlines at Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, Conn. and airs live on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fight series. The bout marks the first show on the network for promoter Main Events in nearly four years, when Joel Julio defeated Agnes Adjaho in May ‘11. The New Jersey-based establishment had previously served as the exclusive provider of boxing content for NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night series before the deal expired at the end of 2014. Dargan (17-0, 9KOs) became a familiar face on the Fight Night circuit after signing with Main Events in 2013. The unbeaten Philly prospect has appeared on both NBC Sports Network and its parent station NBC, with his most recent performance coming on the free TV network with 5th round knockout of Angino Perez last September, also at Foxwoods Resort. “We're very excited to be working with ESPN and with Foxwoods again,” said promoter Kathy Duva. “Dargan had a big 2014 and we expect 2015 to be even bigger. With this fight, he'll have another opportunity to pick up a regional title and move up in the lightweight rankings, but it won't be easy.”

VERONA, N.Y. – Antoine Douglas and Michel Soro fought to a majority draw (96-94 Soro, 95-95 twice) in a bout that was a tale of two halves in the main event of Friday’s ShoBox: The New Generation, live on SHOWTIME® from Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, Calif. The undefeated Douglas (14-0-1, 9 KOs) dominated the first half of the fight, controlling the action with a plethora of jabs against the vastly experienced former world title challenger. A rip in Soro’s gloves caused a halt in the bout midway through the fourth, but it was more of the same once the bout restarted with Douglas controlling the action.

In the opener, 26-year old Lightweight Tony Luis (18-2, 7 KO), 135, of Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, bounced back from a loss to undefeated Ivan Redkach in his last start with a sound unanimous decision over eight rounds, giving 25-year old Wanzell Ellison (11-1-1, 5 KO), 133, of Newark, New Jersey, his first professional loss. There were no knockdowns in the contest but it was Luis with the sharper, more eye catching offense throughout. Ellison rallied over the second half of the bout but it was too little, too late. The scores came in at 77-75, 79-73, and 78-74, all for Luis.
