Tony Averlant Has Hand Surgery, Out For Three Months
By Per Ake Persson
French light heavyweight Tony Averlant, 18-7-2, has had surgery to his right hand and will be out of action for three months. Averlant lost a split duke to then EBU champ Eduard Gutknecht in March of last year after a fight most thought he had won. Even then he was already suffering from pain in the hand but the problem couldn´t be diagnosed.
Tony returned late last year to outscore Lubo Hantak but then suffered an upset loss to Mounir Toumi in a fight for the WBFed I/C title. It was however not discovered until recently that Averlant had been fighting with a fracture in his right hand for a long time - a problem that now appears to be cured and Tony is eager to return to the ring.
