Despite rumors to the contrary Tom Loeffler says no decision has been made regarding Roman Gonzalez's 2016 debut.
"No opponent or date has been confirmed for Roman," as of yet," said Tom Loeffler, the Managing Director for K2 Promotions on Wednesday afternoon.
Gonzalez, the reigning WBC flyweight champion, is looking to have a banner year as he has become a staple of HBO's boxing franchise.
A fight that would hold great interest is a rematch against WBC/WBC champion Juan Francisco Estrada, who engaged in an entertaining fight with 'Chocolatito' in November of 2012 at the L.A. Sports Arena. Estrada lost a twelve round decision that night but has since captured two worlds titles at flyweight and has firmly established himself as one of the best boxers in the lower weight divisions.
When asked if this was a possibility for Gonzalez's next bout, Loeffler answered - "Not this time around, no. Not for this fight." But he did add,"I think it makes a lot of sense to make it for sometime in 2016."
Gonzalez, who has a sterling record of 44-0 (38 KO's), is coming off an impressive ninth round stoppage of former three-time champion Brian Viloria on October 17th at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
