Gaby Peñagarícano has confirmed to BoxingScene.com that he is now the legal adviser to undefeated WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (29-0, 12KOs). Peñagarícano is the legal adviser to numerous fighters, including former three division world champion Miguel Cotto.
"Tim Bradley has retained my services," Peñagarícano said to BoxingScene.com.
According to Peñagarícano, there are still ongoing discussions regarding Bradley's HBO televised return on December 15th at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida. During a recent interview, Bradley made it clear that he wasn't going to fight in December unless a lucrative opportunity came along.
"Right now me and [Bradley's manager] Cameron [Dunkin] are talking with Top Rank about December 15th," Peñagarícano said.
Peñagarícano would not discuss the rumors of friction going on behind the scenes. In an interview conducted with ESPN a few days ago, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum placed the blame on Peñagarícano for the failed negotiations to make a rematch between Cotto and Manny Pacquiao. According to Arum, Peñagarícano withheld information from the Puerto Rican star in a planned maneuver to finalize a December fight against Austin Trout in Madison Square Garden.
"I think Cotto is an honest guy, totally honest; I think Gaby was playing games," Arum said. "I think Gaby wanted to do the Garden thing because it would be his entree into what he considered big-time promotion. I think that's what happened. I don't trust Penagaricano. I think he has another agenda. I trust Miguel."
During his conversation with BoxingScene, Peñagarícano denied the allegations by Arum.
