Thomas Oosthuizen: record, next fight and profile →
The undercard to Mario Daser (12-0) vs Ola Afolabi (22-5-4), on May 19 at the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, has now been announced by EC Boxing. The sole non-title matchup of the evening might be the best as Igor Mikhalkin (19-1) takes on South African Thomas Ooshuizen (26-0-2) in a non-title twelve-rounder.
A rejuvenated Tommy Oosthuizen came back from a break of nearly 15 months to stop Daniel Bruwer in nine rounds to win the vacant WBA Pan African light-heavyweight title at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg on Saturday.
It won´t be Seanie Monaghan or Nathan Cleverly that takes on WBA regular light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (47-2) in Neubrandenburg on March 12, in headline bout of a Sauerland Event promotion.
Veteran boxing trainer Harold Volbrecht has lifted the lid on tawdry behaviour and says he is done for good with the wayward boxer. Last week, promoter Rodney Berman was forced to pull the plug on the fighter's world title bout in Germany on account of him hitting the skids yet again. It's the latest in a catalogue of disasters surrounding Oosthuizen, with Volbrecht describing it as "a nightmare."
Tommy Oosthuizen’s demons have caught up with him again. The unbeaten boxer and his manager have informed Rodney Berman that he is in no condition to challenge WBA light-heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer in Germany in March, forcing the cancellation of the big fight.
Juergen Braehmer (47-2, 35 KOs) will defend his WBA World Light Heavyweight title against Thomas ‘Tommy Gun’ Oosthuizen (25-0-2, 14 KOs) on March 12 at the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg, Germany.
Suggestions that Juergen Braehmer was running scared of Tommy Oosthuizen appear to have been wide of the mark. This appears to be the case after Rodney Berman returned from the WBA Convention in Panama with word that the WBA “regular†champion will defend his belt against the South African in Germany on March 12.
For years, Jurgen Braehmer has been relegated to the background when discussion surfaces of the best light heavyweights in the world today. Now he's forced to the sidelines, thus postponing plans for a fight that would have improved his stance in such discussions. A hand injury forced the secondary light heavyweight titlist out of a planned November 7 defense versus unbeaten Thomas Oosthuizen. The bout was due to headline the latest installment of promoter Rodney Berman's “Night of Champions” tournament in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
By Jake Donovan Mere days removed from his latest victory, Juergen Braehmer is ready to jump right back into the mix. The 36-year old southpaw racked up the fifth defense of his secondary title with a 7th round knockout of Konni Konrad over the weekend in Dresden, Germany. There was barely anytime for celebration, as Braehmer is set to next defend in two months, facing unbeatean Thomas Oosthuizen on November 7 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Kiwi light heavyweight boxer Robert Berridge has lost the third fight of his career, coming up short in an underwhelming unanimous points decision for the IBO world title against Thomas Oosthuizen in Gauteng, South Africa. Berridge, now 26-3, took the fight on Saturday against the undefeated South African (25-0) on short notice and managed to last 12 rounds. But the judges' scorecards were definitive; 116-112, and two which read 117-111, all in favor of Oosthuizen, who did enough but laboured at times.
