Arena, Mexico City, Mexico - In a battle for the vacant WBC super bantamweight title, Victor Terrazas (37-2-1, 21KOs) won a very close twelve round split decision over countryman and former champion Cristian Mijares (47-7-2, 22KOs). The scores were 114-113 Mijares, 114-113 Terrazas and 115-112 Terrazas.

Victor was victor. But it was tough. Mijares put him down hard with a big left hook in the embers of the final round and thence crowned when he might have followed up. Victor started slowly and got caught by some crisp right leads. But he cut down the distance and his straight punches were finding the mark. By the end of the eighth victor was ahead on all three cards. Both men had a lot of facial wear and tear. Going into the eleventh the right eye of victor was bleeding heavily. Youth and better boxing won the vacant WBC super bantamweight title for Terrazas down the stretch as Mijares tired. His late rally just fell short.

Former two division world champion Juan Manuel Lopez (33-2, 30KOs) knocked out late replacement Eugenio Lopez (31-25-1, 25KOs) in the second round of a fight held at the super featherweight limit. A left uppercut followed by a right hook put Lopez away in the second.

Super flyweight prospect McJoe Arroyo (13-0, 7KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Jairo Hernández (9-3, 3KOs). The scores were 78-73, 76-75 and 77-74.

Top flyweight prospect Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez (13-0, 11 KOs) of Puerto Rico was unable to score another impressive knockout, and instead won an eight round unanimous decision over Francisco Perez (10-3, 5 KOs). The scores were 78-74, 77-75 and 78-74.

Mexican middleweight sensation Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez (25-0, 20KOs) made short work of Colombian Juan de Angel Monterrosa (9-3-1, 9KOs) with a knockout in two minutes of the third round. Using his height and considerable and reach, Gilberto patiently broke down the smaller man with accurate counter punching and some crunching body shots. The sustained accurate barrage was too much, and Monterrosa crumpled against the ropes to be counted out.

Mijares has had a really weird career for close or straight up bull**** decisions never going his way. Even in fights that weren't close the cards would often nearly rob him. Here again, we have a fight that he won, just the Cermeno fight, but they decided to give it to the other guy. Why? Is ...

While Austin Trout was busy being robbed north of the border, Cristian Mijares was being robbed south of the border. Awful decision.
