There is a possibility that Alexander Ustinov (31-1, 22 KOs) will face former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (58-6-1, 51 KOs) on a date in October in Venezuela, according to the Russian fighter's promoter Vladimir Hryunov.
Ustinov, who this past Saturday night demolished Travis Walker, has been presented with an offer by the World Boxing Association to have a fight as part of a card they are putting together in the fall.
"We are observing the situation in the WBA rankings. We have received an exceptional offer from the President of the Federation to have a fight in Venezuela. Ustinov will return to the ring in October. He currently occupies the seventh position in the WBA rankings, and his possible opponent during the event in Venezuela would have to fall within the top five. There is more than a fifty percent chance that the opponent will be fifth ranked Shannon Briggs," Hyrunov told SportBox.
Both Ustinov and Briggs are angling for a shot at the heavyweight king, Wladimir Klitschko, who defends his WBO/WBA/IBO/IBF titles against mandatory challenger Tyson fury in October.
