Team Rubio Will Protest Martinez vs. Chavez Jr. Rematch

By Ernesto Castellanos,

The promotional team behind middleweight contender Marco Antonio Rubio will legally protest a potential Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. rematch. Rubio recently scored a legal victory when an judge ruled that the World Boxing Council must grant him a mandatory title shot. Rubio's promoter, Reginaldo Kuchle, says the winner of the April 27th battle between Martinez and undefeated challenger Martin Murray must face his boxer next or face the possibility of being stripped.

Kuchle is not worried about last Tuesday's comments from WBC President Jose Sulaiman, who said he would sanction a Martinez-Chavez rematch. Kuchle says Rubio has already started training in Oxnard, California with trainer Robert Garcia.

"We are already aware [of what Sulaiman said], and we will not accept this. Martinez has a fight with Murray and his next opponent will be Rubio," said Kuchle. "Moreover, in three months Marco will ready to step into the ring to face Martinez. Our idea is to have Rubio fight Martinez and the winner will provide Chavez with the opportunity [of a shot]. That would be fair."

The only things this Rubio clown has over Martinez is chin and activity. He'd get battered to a UD ala Pothead Jr.

If he his the mandatory then the WBC need to respect it's own rules, I seem to remember that he already fought a WBC title holder not so long ago. So why is he a mandatory again?

Is the WBC Middleweight ranking that terrible that the same guy keeps getting mandatory shots? Rubio has lost every major opportunity given to him including the title shot against Jcc Jr. Hell, Chavez Jr outclassed him so I wonder what…
