Gary Hyde, the manager of WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, responded to some recent comments from Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20KOs), the WBO's champion at the weight. The comments in question were recently published on BoxingScene.com. In the interview, Donaire said Rigondeaux (11-0, 8KOs) would be an easy fight, based on their styles, and he wasn't worried about the match.
Rigondeaux is scheduled to return on February 23rd in the co-featured position to Timothy Bradley's next defense of the WBO welterweight title. Hyde expects their unification to take place by June of next year, as promised by the mutual promoter of both boxers - Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum.
"Rigo's next fight is scheduled for February 23 against an opponent to be determined. Promoter Bob Arum promised me the Rigo-Donaire fight will be in June 2013. Donaire can not be serious in saying that Rigo will be easy for him. Rigo is the biggest nightmare for Donaire and he won't figure him out. Rigo is very willing to fight him. He knows Donaire's weaknesses and know how to beat him. I'm very confident that Rigo will defeat Donaire and place himself among the elite boxers, where he belongs," Hyde told El Nuevo Herald.
