Team Povetkin, Sauerland Await WBA's Mandatory Ruling
By Rick Reeno
BoxingScene.com was advised that Alexander Povetkin, and Sauerland Event, are waiting for the World Boxing Association to make a ruling on the mandatory status of Hasim Rahman.
Rahman (50-7-2, 41KOs) was scheduled to challenge Povetkin (24-0, 16KOs) for the WBA's "regular" heavyweight championship on July 14th in Hamburg. But Rahman suffered a minor wrist injury that required surgery and a few weeks of rehab.
No September date will be finalized until the WBA make a determination if Rahman will remain as the mandatory challenger or if another boxer will be appointed as the mandatory due to Rahman's unavailability. Rahman expects to resume training in August.
The WBA must be run by senile old men. It takes them a ridiculously long time to make decisions in situations like this.Comment by jray100k on 07-13-2012
