The last we saw of Victor Postol (28-0, 12KO), he scored a shocking tenth round stoppage of the usually sturdy Lucas Matthysse on the night of October 3rd at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. In doing so he picked up the vacant WBC 140-pound title.
So what's next for 'the Iceman' of Ukraine?
His manager Vadim Kornilov told BoxingScene.com on Thursday evening - "I'm waiting to see what the networks are going to come up with. I read some conversations in the press about Postol denying the Crawford fight but in reality that has never been brought up. Postol's ready to fight Crawford at any time but in my opinion Crawford is choosing the easier route for now."
Crawford, who owns the WBO super lightweight belt, is facing Hank Lundy on February 27th at the Theater at Madison Square Garden as the main event on HBO. It's not clear if HBO will have a spring slot for the 31-year old Postol.
"If HBO doesn't show interest to a fighter that knocked out one of the best fighters in that division in Matthysse, we'll consider other networks, we'll consider going to Russia to do a fight,"said Kornilov, who says that this is a realistic option, explaining - "Postol is a Ukrainian fighter but we do have partners in Russia that would be interested in doing a world title fight, especially with the title being a WBC title and it means a lot over there in that region. So we can definitely consider that option."
Kornilov, who also handles the career of Ruslan Provodnikov, prefers to have Postol back in the ring,''by April."
When asked who he'd like to face, the manager was quick to say,"Terence Crawford."
