Danny Green says old foe Anthony Mundine won't have anywhere left to hide, claiming a long-awaited rematch with the West Australian will soon be his only option for a high-profile fight.
Green returned to the ring last Wednesday against Argentinean light-heavyweight Roberto Bolonti after a 33-month absence, and dominated to a ten round win at Hisense Arena.
Some things never change, as Green took a verbal swipe at Mundine who's still to find an opponent for a scheduled fight in Melbourne on October 14.
Mundine prevailed when the pair met in a money-spinning super-middleweight bout in Sydney nine years ago, and Green, 42, said "round two" is his long-term plan for 2016.
"I think Mundine realizes that all of the burrows that he's been crawling under to avoid me have been blocked," Green told AAP.
"Main Event don't want to see him fight, the people of Australia don't want to see him fight, and they've proven that with the numbers he's getting.
"He doesn't sell; he's got no room to move."
But Mundine’s manager Ben Thompson, spoke to the Neil Davey of the West Australian, and accused Green of sending “mixed messages”.
“One moment Danny is telling Anthony he needs to fight him, the next he says he doesn’t need him. Even I’m confused,” Thompson said. “He’s basically talking nonsense. Firstly, Danny needs to lose some weight. He’s 20kg (44-pounds) heavier than Anthony yet he’s talking as if the fight can happen soon.
“Anthony said let him show he’s serious by getting down in weight and fighting a genuine Australian light-heavy, like Blake Caparello or Sakio Bika. Then he might be interested. Otherwise he's using the Mundine name to get publicity for his fights. Danny also criticized our pay-per-view figures. How would he know what they are? And how would he know what his were straight after the fight?
“Team Mundine respectfully kept quiet in the lead-up to Danny’s fight, giving him the space to focus on his job at hand. We thought it was strange that Mundine was mentioned more times than Green’s opponents. Anthony is ranked top four by the IBF, WBA and WBC. Danny is not rated. His show was a third of the size that (Mundine v) Rabchenko was.
“We brought out the No.1 fighter, he brought out a nobody. Anthony summed it up today, he said, ‘Danny is like a teenage girlfriend that can’t let go’. He was beaten once and may have to live with that."
