Team Klitschko Doubt David Haye, No Vitali Fight in May

By Rick Reeno

Bernd Boente, the manager for heavyweight champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, is not putting any stock in the recently published comments from Adam Booth, the manager and trainer for WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. During a recent interview with British publication Daily Express, Booth set down a challenge for Vitali Klitschko in the month of May.

Booth said: “I just hope Vitali has a bigger set of man jewels than his brother, who should go into politics and work as a spin doctor. The Wladimir Klitschko fight is dead in the water. He didn’t want it, simple as that, but David Haye’s career does not revolve around him. Unlike all the 50-odd opponents who Wladimir has fought, David is not going to sit around waiting for him."

Boente is confused with Booth's statements.

Because Wladimir Klitschko is taking a fight with Dereck Chisora on April 30, Haye is unwilling to face Wladimir on July 2. According to Haye, the dates were too close and he questioned whether or not Wladimir would be able to take two fights in a such a short amount of time. Vitali is facing Odlanier Solis on March 19. Regardless of the exact target date in May, the amount of time between Vitali-Solis and Vitali-Haye - is virtually indentical to the amount of time between Wladimir-Chisora and Wladimir-Haye.

Regardless of the date in May, Vitali-Haye can't happen until July. The problem is still the same. The first available television date that works for both RTL in Germany, and Sky Sports in the UK, is July 2.

"It won't happen in May. Again, as I said before, we are not playing games here. The situation here is the same. It can't happen in May because there are no available dates and no stadium. There are no available dates for RTL. Whether it's Wladimir or Vitali, the fight would have to happen in July," Boente said to

Boente has no reason to believe Booth's recent comments. Booth made it perfectly clear at the start of their negotiations a few weeks ago, that Haye was only interested in facing Wladimir. Boente believes Team Haye is attempting another "Nikolai Valuev" swerve.

Back in 2009, Boente was under the impression that a deal had been reached for Vitali to fight Haye. That didn't happen. Haye abruptly withdrew from their negotiations and signed a contract to fight Valuev. Boente feels the same situation is taking place, except this time he believes Haye is using Vitali's name as part of a negotiating tactic for a possible mandatory fight with Alexander Povetkin.

"Every day there is a new story. I don't believe this because Haye said from the beginning that he wasn't interested in fighting Vitali. I think this is the same situation as last time, when he said he was going to fight Vitali and then he went with Valuev. I think he is just saying this for the negotiations with Povetkin. That's just my opinion," Boente said.
