Team Khabib Target a Rematch With Jessie Vargas
By Rick Reeno
Vladimir Hryunov, manager of Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-1, 9KOs), tells BoxingScene.com that his boxer wants a rematch, as soon as possible, with Jessie Vargas (24-0, 9KOs). This past Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Vargas outpointed Khabib to win the IBO and WBA 'regular' junior welterweight titles. The scores were 115-113, 115-113, 117-111.
Khabib-Vargas was part of the HBO Pay-Per-View undercard to the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley rematch.
Many of the writers on press row had scored the fight in favor of Khabib, including HBO's unofficial scorer Harold Lederman.
Hryunov, who believes his fighter clearly won a decision, spoke to Top Rank's CEO, Bob Arum, who gave Hryunov "his word" that a rematch would be coming.
"I spoke to Bob Arum. He said I have his word that a rematch will happen. We were honored to be a part of such a huge event and to fight on the same card as Manny Pacquiao, but now we are looking forward to a rematch with Vargas," Hryunov told BoxingScene.com.
WTF? I thought Vargas beat him handily. What's up with people's scoring these days? A guy can be eating jabs for a whole round, but then he throws one decent combination and people give him the round. Khabib spent most…Comment by MujoHrnjica on 04-15-2014
Khabib should blame his lazy ass for not throwing enough punches and sitting that left all night waiting for the big punch.
So Khabib was lazy, shy to throw and got outworked by Vargas right?Comment by bartolomewj on 04-14-2014
Khabib should blame his lazy ass for not throwing enough punches and sitting that left all night waiting for the big punch.Comment by BoxngLove on 04-14-2014
Vargas chose an interesting route in backing up most of the night adn coming forward with combinations. Hats off to both of them for bringing a good fight that night. I, too, had Khabib ahead by a point or two.…Post a Comment/View More User Comments (8)
