Mike Altamura, manager of WBA #4 ranked featherweight contender Alberto "Kichis" Garza of Mexico City, denies rumors of a finalized deal to face WBA featherweight champion Nicholas “The Axeman” Walters (22-0, 18KOs) on an April date in Jamaica. Altamura has yet to receive a formal offer for the match.
"No formal offer has been presented to our camp yet. Obviously we're interested in the opportunity, but any discussions about this fight are completely premature at this juncture. All [Walters' manager Jacques] Deschamps needs to do is make a responsible offer via the right channels and Alberto shall accept the challenge," Altamura said to BoxingScene.com.
Altamura likes the match and believes his fighter has what it takes to derail the unbeaten run of Walters.
"I'm confident in my fighter's abilities. Walters may be "The Axeman", but my guy is The Headchopper. He'll be coming to flatten this guy," Altamura said.Tags: Nicholas Walters
