Team Cotto: Tickets Selling Fast, Sellout is Expected

By Rick Reeno

Gaby Peñagarícano, the legal adviser to former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KOs), informed that tickets for his boxer's upcoming fight are selling at a very rapid pace. Cotto is challenging undefeated Austin Trout (25-0, 14KOs) for the WBA "regular" junior middleweight title on December 1st at New York's Madison Square Garden. Showtime will televise. The event is being promoted by Cotto Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.

According to Peñagarícano, the early ticket sales are actually stronger than any of Cotto's previous fights at MSG. He is fully confident the event will be a complete sellout.

"We did a pre-sale for this show for three hours and it did the same amount of tickets as previous pre-sales for Miguel's shows that were 24-hours [in length]. It essentially sold the same amount of tickets as a pre-sale that was 24-hours for a Miguel Cotto event at the Garden. I know it's going to be a sellout. After the pre-sale, the tickets have been selling at a higher state than any of Miguel's prior fights in his career at the Garden," Peñagarícano told

Peñagarícano agrees that Cotto's durable performance against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5th only increased the boxer's popularity.

"I thought he did phenomenal in the fight and I think his stature overall only grew.... absolutely," Peñagarícano said.

Unbeaten featherweight prospect Jayson Velez (19-0, 14KOs), who Cotto promotes, is one of the boxers who is scheduled to appear on the undercard. At one point former junior welterweight champion Amir Khan was being considered for the card, but he appears to be heading to a Showtime televised date of December 15th.

Cottos the man and deserves everything he has. A true gentleman of the sport.

not suprising cotto being the 3rd highest ppv sellout after mayweather & pacquiao. watch out though, hatton is catching up in terms of ppv. i expect the trout fight to be cagey, cotto takes control mostly landing when trout is…

I went to Cotto v. Clottey at the Garden and it was louder than any concert I've ever been to...including Barry Manilow. But seriously, it was louder than Megadeth. Take my wife.
