Eddy Reynoso, the manager of WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs), is planning to speak with Golden Boy Promotions in the next few days, hoping to finalize the details of the Mexican star's next fight.

Canelo returned to action this past Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, demolishing Josesito Lopez in five rounds for a TKO victory. Over 14,000 fans packed the venue to support Canelo.

According to Reynoso, the most viable opponent for Canelo's next fight is top contender James Kirkland - and he also reveals there are tentative plans for a December return, possibly in San Antonio, Texas. There are some issues with this match. Kirkland recently filed a lawsuit to break his promotional agreement with Golden Boy. The legal issues would have to be resolved to make this fight possible.

After the year is over, Reynonso will focus his attention on May 4, 2013 - a date being set aside for a huge fight involving Canelo. Reynoso says the "Cinco De Mayo" return will come against Puerto Rico's Miguel Cotto, if he defeats WBA champion Austin Trout in December, or a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
