Team Canelo Eye James Kirkland Clash For December

By Salvador Rodriguez

The streak of fights at the MGM Grand  will come to an end in December. The last three fights for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) have taken place in Las Vegas, but manager Edison Reynoso says the next fight will happen at the Alamodome in San Antonio in Texas or the Staples Center in Los Angeles in California.

Canelo, Edison Reynoso, Jose 'Chepo' Reynoso, Oscar de la Hoya and Eric Gomez will meet during the last week of August or early September to begin to outline the future of Canelo. And James Kirkland is their first choice for December.

"[After the meeting] we will know if we're fighting on the 6th or the 20th of December, will see what is best for us," said Eddy."

The choice to move the fight from November to December is to avoid Canelo having too much inactivity - if he intends to fight during Cinco De Mayo weekend in 2015.

Canelo takes all comers but giving him credit for fighting a guy that'd be coming off a one year layoff is a reach. Kirkland won't go past 6 rds.

[QUOTE=jrrod02;14835322]Dream come true? The dude agreed to the fight last time and backed out. Even his managers and the people around him were befuddled as to why he turned down a career paycheck against Canelo in 2012. I'll believe it…
