Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn immediately confronted former welterweight champion Joshua Clottey’s tweet about a possible bout with Kell Brook by revealing he has email proof that Team Clottey stated that the ‘Grand Master’ can no longer make 147lbs. Clottey was claiming that Brook turned down a potential fight between the two of them.
Hearn reacted angrily to the initial news before the Ghanaian backed off and admitted that he is now a light-middleweight and the potential contest wouldn’t even get off the ground.
“If you DM (Direct Message) me your email, I ‘m happy to forward emails confirming you couldn’t make 147 anymore, “stated Hearn.
Clottey then tweeted: “Lately I get of lot of tweets to make a fight with English guy Kell Brook. I have never seen him fight. I hear he is a welter anyway and I am a 154 guy now. I wish him luck.”
The one-time IBF champion then added: "I call bluff. 147 is fine as long as I have enough [time for a] camp. If a money fight comes my way at 147, I will take it. It isn't ideal but that's life."
Brook, 25, is pencilled in for what is sure to be another huge sell-out night at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena on July 7th and Hearn is currently in the process of securing what he says will be a rated opponent for the date.
