The boxing world was buzzing on Wednesday night when Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Canelo Alvarez took to Twitter to announce that they will be facing each other on September 14th in Las Vegas.  Now that the biggest fight of the year has come to fruition, many other fights will become finalized.

Amir Khan (28-3, 19KOs) and IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (25-1, 14KOs) had both been mentioned as possible Mayweather opponents. Mayweather himself tweeted that Alexander was the leading candidate to face him in May before he chose Robert Guerrero as his May 4th opponent.  Khan recently stated that he was in negotiations to be Mayweather's next opponent.

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer recently said that he would like to match Khan and Alexander on December 7th. In numerous articles on BoxingScene.com Khan also mentioned that he would like to move up in weight to face the three time champion.

Team Alexander is also very interested in the fight. The St. Louis native's manager and trainer Kevin Cunningham told BoxingScene.com that they want Khan to be their next opponent.

"Now that Floyd-Canelo is going down I guess Khan can get spanked next. Devon's looking forward to checking Khan's chin in the fall," said Cunningham.

Alexander broke his left hand in the first round of his May 18th stoppage victory over Lee Purdy. Cunningham said that his fighter will be ready to return in the fall.
