Tarver May Target Wlodarczyk Next, Then Heavyweight

By Phil D. Jay

IBO cruiserweight champion Antonio Tarver has told WBN that he may seek a unification bout with WBC champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk as he returns to the ring in the first part of 2012 for his first defence of the belt.

The 43 year-old dethroned Danny Green in Australia in July only to see the Pole, 30, do the same to Green last month and Tarver now sees a meeting between the two as the next logical step after Wlodarczyk’s camp call out the American.

“Well it's only right that they want to give there fighter the best chance to make as much money fighting the biggest fight available to him. So I don't blame them,” Tarver told World Boxing News.

“By far it's the biggest cruiserweight fight that can be made right now.

Tarver has mentioned to WBN in a previous interview that he may box in the US for his next contest and will eventually vacate whatever 200lb titles he possesses to have a crack at the higher division later in the year.

“I definitely will be fighting in the 1st quarter of the year and I'm not at all pleased with how in active I've been,” he explained

“Next year will be different. I want to fight three times next year and if all goes well retire as Heavyweight champion.”
