Inoue-Parrenas Tops 12/29 Tripleheader In Tokyo

Unbeaten super flyweight champion Naoya Inoue is officially set to return to the ring. The 22-year old wunderkind is healed up and prepared to defend his title versus Philippines' Warlito Parrenas on December 29 in Tokyo, Japan. The bout will top a televised tripleheader that will also include a junior flyweight title fight between Javier Mendoza and former two-division champ Akira Yaegashi as well as Inoue's younger brother Takuma Inoue in action. The show was formally announced during a press conference held Tuesday afternoon in Tokyo, confirming news which first appeared on BoxingScene.com three weeks ago.

Takuma Inoue may not boast the explosive power his older brother Naoya has displayed while on the rise, but both continue to storm through an accelerated level of competition at an alarming rate. The 19-year young super flyweight outpointed Philippines’ Mark Geraldo in his first scheduled 12-round bout Monday evening in Tokyo, Japan. Scores were 115-112, 116-111 and 117-110 in favor of Inoue, who in just five pro fights has already faced three opponents who have fought for a major title or in a final eliminator.

Metropolitan Gym, Tokyo, Japan - Jorge Linares (38-3, 25 KOs) became a three division world champion by capturing the vacant WBC lightweight championship as he knocked out Javier Prieto (24-8-2, 18 KOs) in the fourth round. The belt was taken from Omar Figueroa by the World Boxing Council, due to Figueroa's extended layoff from injuries and recent statements regarding his inability to make the lightweight limit.

In a fight that has major Year-End awards - including Fighter of the Year - on pause, precocious Naoya Inoue moves up two weight classes to take on long-reigning 115 lb. titlist Omar Narvaez. Their clash takes place Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan, headlining a loaded card that features two more major title fights. Narvaez and Inoue did their part to keep the main event intact, as both fighters made weight for their scheduled 12-round bout. Narvaez (43-1-2, 23KOs) tipped the scales at a fighting-ready 114.4 lb, while Inoue - who moves up from junior flyweight - came in just under the limit at 114.8 lb.

Jorge Linares (37-3, 24 KOs) faces Javier "Implacable" Prieto (24-7-2, 18 KOs) for the vacant WBC lightweight title. Linares came in at 134.75-pounds and Prieto was 134.5. WBO super flyweight champion Omar "Huracán" Narváez (43-1-2, 23 KOs) defends his title against rising Japanese star Naoya Inoue (7-0, 6 KOs). Narvaez was 114.25-pounds and Inoue was 115.

A family feud and a pursuit of history pave the way for a loaded December 30 show in Tokyo, Japan. Naoya Inoue is already abandoning the 108 lb. division, moving up two weight classes in pursuit of long reigning super flyweight titlist Omar Narvaez. The bout comes barely two years into the already amazing career of the 21-year old prodigious talent, who earlier this year laid claim to the junior flyweight crown with a one-sided beatdown of Adrian Hernandez in Japan.

The World Boxing Organization has approved a planned fight between WBO super flyweight champion Omar "El Huracán" Narvaez (43-1-2, 23KOs), and undefeated Japanese knockout artist Naoya Inoue (7-0, 6KOs), the current junior flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council. The fight is targeted for December 31 in Osaka, Japan.

All fighters slated for Friday's big show in Tokyo were on point during Thursday's pre-fight weigh-in. Headlining the show, Akira Yaegashi attempts the fourth defense of the World flyweight crown as he faces unbeaten Román Gonzalez. Yaegashi (20-3, 10KOs) came in exactly at the 112 lb. flyweight limit. The bout is his first since a 9th round stoppage of Odilon Zaleta this past April. On the same show, Gonzalez scored a 4th round stoppage of Juan Purisima in his final tune-up. Gonzalez (39-0, 33KOs) weighed slightly lighter than the defending champion, tipping the scales at a chiseled 111.75 lb. A win will make him just the second fighter ever from Nicaragua to win major titles in three weight classes. The only other to perform the feat is the late Alexis Arguello.

WBC flyweight champion Akira Yaegashi (20-3, 10 KOs) retained his belt with a ninthe round knockout of tough Odilon Zaleta (15-4, 8 KOs) of Mexico. It was a tough fight with Yaegashi winning a majority decision after eight rounds of action, 77-76, 77-75 and 76-76. Up next is a showdown with Roman Gonzalez. Two-division champion Roman “El Chocolatito” Gonzalez (39-0, 33 KOs) crushed Juan Purisima (11-3-1, 3 KOs) in three one-sided rounds to set up a fight with WBC flyweight champion Akira Yaegashi.
