| Takashi Uchiyama Gets Up To Stop Miura in Eight
By Jhonny Gonzalez Takashi Uchiyama (17-0, 14KOs) retained his WBA super featherweight title for the third time with a tough eight round stoppage of his Japanese compatriot Takashi Miura (22-2-2, 16KOs) at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, Japan. The ringside doctor stopped the fight after the eighth round because of a bad cut near Miura's right eye. Miura did well in the contest, including a knockdown of the champion in the third round. Uchiyama won the title a year ago with a twelfth round knockout of Juan Carlos Salgado. Tags: Takashi Uchiyama , Takashi Miura , Uchiyama-Miura , Uchiyama vs Miura |

Uchiyama reportedly broke his hand in the second round or so, and lost his concentration some. He was smacked in the face hard and hit the canvas, but got up on his feet to use his left to retake control of the fight. Impressive I'd say. The broken hand, seemingly, didn't crump the champion's style. |
