Sulaiman: It is Time For Bernard Hopkins To Retire

World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman says he is waiting to see the video of the WBC light heavyweight title fight in which “Bad” Chad Dawson stopped 46-year-old Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins in the second round, after Hopkins was slammed to the canvas and couldn’t continue because of an injured left shoulder.

Sulaiman told BoxingScene.com/Viva Sports that Hopkins “got downed with a clear push by Dawson and hurt his shoulder. He couldn't continue and there is a serious controversy as they (Hopkins handlers) protested the action of referee (Pat Russell)  by taking the title again from a great boxer in the first minutes, with no consideration to the foul. I am waiting for the video.”

However, at the same time Sulaiman believes Hopkins, who by all ringside accounts looked slow and showed his age, should retire. He said “I believe that it is time for Bernard to retire.”

agree that Hopkins has not faded enough to retire if he doesn't want to -- I think he'll continue fighting as long as he can make good $$$ or until he gets a real beat-down from someone....

I thought Hopkins looked fine, I didn't think he looked any slower than he always looks.

[QUOTE=MorganB]Maybe Bernard should retire to avoid injury, but not because his boxing skills have eroded . He out landed Chad while throwing less and landed more power punches by punch Stats. An injury from getting thrown down ,not by a punch is a no Contest and he deserves to retain his title.[...

[QUOTE=hitmanjosh]I respect Chad for saying he had his number but the fact of the matter is Bernard was cheated on this one. I don't care if he was faking and could continue; He was fouled and should have been declared a no contest for the most part. These people are really messing boxing up and ...
