World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, pledged that Argentinian hard-puncher Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31KOs) has a chance to defeat the current pound-for-pound welterweight and super welterweight champion of the WBC/WBA, Floyd Mayweather, on September 13th at the MGM Arena in Las Vegas, when they met each other in the ring for second time. Mayweather won a majority decision in their first meeting in May.
Sulaiman expects Maidana to train better, have a much better strategy after already going twelve rounds with Mayweather, and he feels Maidana's power will make him dangerous in every round.
"Maidana, who will now come in with a different preparation and with a good strategy planned by his corner, has chance to defeat Floyd. A hard punching boxer will always have a chance to succeed," Sulaiman said.
Regarding Mayweather's ability to defend both WBC titles in the fight, Mauricio said the WBC Board of Governors will review the request of Mayweather to defend the welterweight and super welterweight titles in the bout.
