WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has been discussing the boxing landscape with the hole that was left by the recent retirement of five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The second biggest star, Manny Pacquiao, is expected to retire on April 9th to pursue his political ambitions.

Most view WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Avarez as the fighter to carry that superstar torch in the future. Others see someone like Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, Terence Crawford, Errol Spence or even heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

Sulaiman anticipates that boxing's next star will emerage at some point in 2016.

“We're currently missing someone who gets the attention of people from every corner of the world, but there are a lot of regional idols. Canelo is an idol in some countries and Golovkin is an idol  in Kazakhstan, Russia and nearby countries; Wilder in the US, Joshua in England. There are a lot of regional idols. Maybe we don’t have that Maywather, that Chavez, that  DeLa Hoya, that Tyson - fighters who stopped the world [when they fought]. But I do believe that almost without noticing it, we will see that person emerge in 2016," Sulaiman said.
