Emanuel Steward, trainer for WBO/IBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, expects the unification with WBA champion David Haye to finally happen. In 2009, Haye signed a contract to fight Wladimir and later withdrew with a back injury - although in several interviews he claimed Klitschko's contract terms were unfair. In the same year, Haye was scheduled to fight WBC champion Vitali Klitschko. He withdrew once again and finalized a deal to face then champion Nikolai Valuev.
After months of discussions, the two sides finalized a 50-50 deal over the weekend, with Klitschko-Haye taking place on June 25 or July 2 in Germany. In several past interviews, Steward told BoxingScene.com - "Haye will never fight Wladimir. He will continue to talk but he will never get in the ring." Steward's opinion has now changed and he expects everything to move forward.
"It's going to happen because he has no choice. He has to fight Wladimir. There is nothing to stop it. There is no other fight. There are no excuses. He has no choice but to fight," Steward said.
