Steve Cunningham: I Beat The Crap Out of Adamek

By Tim Kudgis

Last night, Steve "USS" Cunningham stopped by ATG Radio and was asked if he would be interested in a trilogy fight with Tomasz Adamek after the controversial split decision loss in their rematch from this past Saturday on NBC. Cunningham had this to say:

"The first fight I feel that should have been at least a draw.  I felt it could have went my way or I felt it could have went his way.  After that 12th round bell goes, I felt either way this fight goes I am content because I did my best off of the 3 knockdowns."

"Then after they awarded him the fight, for four years that was on the back of my mind.  You know after the fight I went after the rematch but didn't get it.  I went on to beat Wayne Braithwaite to become his #1 contender and he vacated and went to heavyweight."

"After that I got my belt back and the Tomasz Adamek fight was in the back of my mind.  We finally get the fight.  My whole goal was to show the world I can beat this man and I did it!  I did better than I expected actually.  Then they robbed me and took the fight from me."

Now from what I hear with all of this eliminator crap going on - there may not be an immediate rematch.  I did what I set out to do and beat the crap out of him.  A third fight isn't even in my thought pattern right now.  I beat the guy and he can't beat me but if the third fight did come up no doubt that I would take it.  It would be an even bigger foot forward."

It was a close fight. I had Cunningham edging it, but he certainly didn't "beat the crap out" of Adamek.

115 - 113 for Adamek is how I scored it, or even a draw. Lots of close rounds where Cunningham would control the first half of a round only for Adamek to take control. So, who do you think should…

Have to remember Adamek didn't hold the belt in this minor title fight. The title was vacant. So IOW we aren't looking at a deal where Cunningham had to completely dominate. He did great though, and in fact pushed Adamek…

Cunningham was faster and slicker, but in the HW division his punches mean nothing even when he´s facing another blown up CW. USS, Adamek, Chambers, Banks, even Haye should all go back to cruiser and make it interesting again. Top…
