Steve Cunningham Fires: Antonio Tarver is a Punk!

By Chris LaBate

IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham (24-2, 12KOs) is targeting a unification with IBO champ Antonio Tarver (29-6, 20KOs), who recently stopped Danny Green to capture the title. Cunningham wants a year-end battle with Tarver, but the "Magic Man" is interested in avenging his lopsided decision loss to Bernard Hopkins, which took place a few years ago. After Hopkins, Tarver has expressed interest in moving back to the heavyweight division to challenge WBC champion Vitali Klitschko.

"Well according to Tarver - he's the star in the division and he [doesn't] want to fight me but wants a rematch with Hopkins, then Vitali....he's a punk," Cunningham said. "If the big names don't fight do you become a big name? Guys just run their mouths but when its time to fight they do more talking."

"I propose we fight winner take all loser gets paid nothing, that's coming from the best cruiserweight in the world. Real men don't talk we fight, enjoy your commentating job."

I like Steve but I think he was on his way to getting KO'd by Troy Ross before the thumb in the eye, pretty ridiculous for him to refer to himself as "the best cruiserweight in the world". And he…
