Super bantamweight Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. (17-0-1, 14KOs) is ready for the challenge of Marvin Sonsona (14-0-1, 12KOs). The two may fight for the vacant WBO 122-pound title that was vacated by Juan Manuel Lopez. Sonsona was held to a draw on Saturday against Alejandro Hernandez. Vazquez saw action on Friday night, winning his fight to set up the possible duel for February 20 in Manila, Philippines. Promoter Félix “Tutico” Zabal, who also promotes Sonsona's Saturday opponent, says that he has a contract for the Sonsona fight.
Vazquez saw Sonsona win his super flyweight title from Jose Lopez. He wasn't impressed with the Filipino fighter, viewing him as a bit hyped up. If the title is up for grabs in February, Vazquez plans to bring the title back to Puerto Rico.
"I saw the fight with Sonsona and [Lopez]. The guy is not a phenomenon like everyone is saying. He's a good boxer but just a normal fighter. What I do is train, and keep learning and improving. But if the fight is with him so I could win the world title, I have no problem fighting him."
