Solis-Huerta Tops Six Fight Card in Corona, California

By Francisco Salazar

While the Goossen Promotions card in Temecula, Calif. has garnered attention, there is another fight card taking place in Southern California on Friday night.

Thompson Boxing Promotions presents a six-fight "New Blood" card at the Omega Products International in Corona. It is about a 35-minute drive north on Interstate 15.

In the eight round main event, light welterweight Luis Solis fights former fringe contender Miguel Angel Huerta.

Solis (15-3-4, 12 KOs), from Progreso, Yucatan, Mexico, is coming off a 10 round unanimous decision loss to Jose Roman on May 16. Solis dropped Roman three times in the first round, but could not finish off his opponent.

Huerta (27-12-1, 18 KOs), from Mexico City, DF, Mexico, has lost four of his last five bouts. His last three defeats have been at the hands of Mike Alvarado, Mauricio Herrera, and most recently, Antonio Orozco on January 24.

In the co-feature bout, light flyweight Sindy Amador will fight Anahi Torres in an eight round bout. Amador (12-1, 1 KO) has won her last two bouts, while Torres (12-11, 2 KOs) had a seven-bout winning streak snapped at the hands of Susana Cruz Perez in her last fight last August.

Featherweight Juan Reyes will fight Victor Raul Capaceta (4-6-3, 2 KOs) in a six round bout. Reyes (10-1-3, 1 KO) is unbeaten in his last right bouts.

Three more bouts round out the card.

Tickets range from $100, $60, and $40 and could be purchased at (714) 935-0900. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with first bell scheduled for 7:45 p.m.

The Omega Products International is located at 1681 California Avenue in Corona.
