Adam Smith, Head of Boxing at Sky Sports, is siding with WBC/WBA welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. to defeat both WBO champion Manny Pacquiao and British superstar Amir Khan.
There are ongoing negotiations to make a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao for May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. If those talks fall through, Khan is viewed as a frontrunner to face Mayweather on the May date.
Smith has always sided with Mayweather to defeat Pacquiao, but now he believes the fight is closer than it ever was in the past. Regarding Khan, Smith expects him to cause problems in the early rounds - until Mayweather figures him out.
"Do I think he beats Pacquiao? I've always thought Mayweather would have the better of Pacquiao - until the last six months where I think it would be more of a fight now, because if Mayweather has slowed slightly and Pacquiao still brings that speed and aggression - it would be interesting. I still think I'd side with Mayweather. Khan and Mayweather - Khan gives him problems for a few rounds, but again I think you'd have to fancy Mayweather down the stretch," Smith told BoxingScene.com/Be Real Boxing.
