THE battling Smith brothers are keeping it in the family when it comes to collecting titles and making history. Liam Smith recently became the British light-middleweight champion.
When Liam Smith, 25, defeated Erick Ochieng to claim the vacant British light-middleweight title last Saturday, the family entered the record books.
Liam's win means that, for the first time in history, one family is in possession of three British titles at the same time.
Lifted His 28-year-old brother Stephen holds the super-featherweight belt with eldest sibling Paul, 30, possessing the super-middleweight crown.
Oh, and just for good measure, youngest brother Callum, 23, lifted the English super-middleweight crown on the same bill on Saturday.
Fittingly, those two victories came in front of their home fans in Liverpool, with trainer Joe Gallagher saying: "It's marvellous for the city."
The three British title holders are now set to defend that treble on one major night of boxing in Liverpool at the Echo Arena on December 7. Gallagher trains all four brothers and said: "The record books can't lie and they say that this family is a great boxing family.
"They have boxed more than 150 times for England as amateurs and won more than 20 national amateur titles as well."
Paul has now won the British title twice, while Stephen has collected belts at two different weights.
Gallagher said: "With Callum now winning the English title, the record suggests that there is simply no-one to touch them as a great boxing family."
Paul spoke of the deep boxing history in the Smith clan when he said: "Boxing has always been in our family.
Paul Smith has now won the British title twice.
"Our dad had about three amateur bouts and has always liked the sport, while my dad's brother boxed and my mum's grandad boxed." Stephen said: "Like most people, you follow your big brother around and you want to go out when he is out with his mates.
"He would come home and say to my dad, 'This is what we've learnt today in the gym' and I got into it from there."
Little Liam said: "I got bullied into it! I used to like football as a kid in Saturday leagues but when I came home I was always harassed to box."
Callum created a little more history with his win over Patrick Mendy.
It made him the first boxer to win six straight fights via a first-round KO.
