Siaca: Miguel Cotto Must Dominate Early To Win

By Jhonny Gonzalez

Puerto Rican trainer Manuel Siaca Sr. has advised WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto to attack, and hurt, Antonio Margarito in the early rounds of their December 3rd rematch - taking place at New York's Madison Square Garden.

The longer the fight plays out and Cotto waits, the tougher it's going to be for the champion from Puerto Rico, says Siaca. The respected trainer views an early assault as the key ingredient to beating Margarito.

"I'll tell you the truth, if Cotto does not press the fight and dominate in the early rounds, he is going to have problems. Margarito is strong down the stretch. After the sixth, Margarito is very hard to beat. He has to be neutralized first," Siaca told Jose Sanchez.

The pressure is equally on both boxers. Not only Margarito, but Siaca feels Cotto has a lot to prove as well.

"Cotto won the title from Yuri Foreman, who had a bad knee. And he beat Ricardo Mayorga who came in [after nearly] two years without a fight," Siaca said.

Cotto has always been a slow starter and this has gotten worse as his skills have deteriortaed over the past few years -- he's going to lose to Margarito no matter what he tries to do -- couldn't hurt him…

[QUOTE=budfr;11476891]You are actually suggesting clinching? You Ricans are pathetic cowards. Isn't Cotto saying that Margo used plaster in their third fight? Isn't Cotto in his hometown basically? So why on earth would Cotto clinch like a coward? Ricans clinch too…

[QUOTE=-Antonio-;11475904]I don't agree with this. It's not that these guys get stronger as the fight goes on. Their opponent just starts to wilt. Cotto needs to just not waste so much energy and clinch a little bit so he'll be…
