Undefeated lightweight prospect Shemuel Pagan's four-round bout with William Morgan has been nixed from Saturday's Tomasz Adamek-Kevin McBride undercard, said Pagan and the show's promoter Main Events.
The 22-year-old Pagan of Brooklyn, NY was looking forward to his third pro appearance at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, but when his opponent failed a pre-fight eye exam, Pagan was left out in the cold.
"It makes me feel disappointed because I was training very hard," said the 2-0 (1 KO) Pagan, who was at Madison Square Garden to attend the first night of the Golden Gloves Finals.
Pagan is tied with Mark Breland for the most Daily News Golden Gloves championships at five.
Pagan had been sparring extensively with 2008 Olympian and fellow unbeaten Brooklyn prospect Saddam Ali in preparation for the four-round bout.
Ali, 11-0 (6 KO), is scheduled to face Javier Perez 8-4 (5 KO) in the Adamek card's eight-round co-feature.
Pagan turned pro last October but has fought just once since then, scoring a first round TKO over Marcos Garcia at the Prudential Center.
"We're just hoping [my manager] Jimmy Glenn can get something going on," said Pagan. "He has a lot of connections so he'll be looking for the next show for me to fight on. He just told me to stay busy and keep training."
