As BoxingScene.com previously reported, former IBF welterweight titlist, Shawn "Showtime" Porter (24-1-1, 15KOs) is expected to return in early 2015. The details of that return should be worked out, at least the date, by the end of the week.

Father/trainer Kenny Porter told BoxingScene.com on Monday morning:

"In relation to Shawn's immediate future, we will be fighting in January. An exact day, I haven't received, yet. I'm supposed to get that exact date this Friday. I have a meeting in-person with the people who are involved with the dates and the T.V. dates. When that might be at this particular time, I don't know. There's a number of guys out there on the list but they're asking me to hold off until they can secure something, maybe a contract with these guys before announcing it."

2014 saw Porter bludgeon Paulie Malignaggi in four brutal rounds in April at the DC Armory in the nations capital and then in August he dropped his belt to Kell Brook via majority decision. Is two fights in a calendar year enough for a 27-year old fighter in his physical prime?

"We weren't happy with that, at all," admitted Porter, who also co-manages his son along with Al Haymon.

"In 2014 I expected to go out there at the least, three times. Four would've made me happy.  My situation any circumstances and my understanding, the way I critically think is if we fight more and come up short, we're at least closer to our goal than if we go into it just expecting to fight once or twice, if that makes sense to you."

Porter says he will make it a point to the higher-ups to keep his son more active in the upcoming year. Speaking of which, rumors are running rampant about the future plans of Haymon, from a new deal with NBC to the start of his own network all the way to the domination of western civilization. All of which will have a direct impact on his vast stable of boxers.

When asked about the NBC deal, Porter answered:

"I haven't received any of that information, at all, in regards to what his plans are, what's going on. A lot of that right there might be speculation but I haven't had any conversations in regards to that with him."

"We have discussed Shawn, we've discussed dates, we've discussed them in-person, we've discussed them extensively. But nothing has materialized, yet. I hope to have more information by the end of the week."
