Bryant Jennings’ fight with Mike Perez this past Saturday was a heavyweight elimination bout in which the winner would get to challenge the victor of the upcoming bout between World Boxing Council titleholder Bermane Stiverne and undefeated challenger Deontay Wilder.

Jennings topped Perez by split decision. His promoter, Gary Shaw, says he’s been told by the WBC’s Mauricio Sulaiman that open negotiations for Stiverne-Wilder will begin in August, “and that fight will have to take place by November/December.”

That would have mean Jennings will be “fighting for the world title sometime in the spring of next year or certainly early next year,” Shaw said.

Jennings took to boxing late in life and turned pro about four and a half years ago. He’s approaching his 30th birthday and is now 19-0 with 10 KOs.

Jennings is not a top level heavyweight. He's B class and so is Perez. I wouldn't give either guy much of a chance against Stiverne. Wilder is still truly untested, regardless of his crazy knockout streak. There must be some real power there but he's never had to fight anyone equally as powerful ...

I guess this means that any chance of a unification fight with Wlad is on the back burner for now? No, I guess in reality it really isn't even on the stove or possibly not even in the kitchen. That sucks.

[QUOTE=BostonGuy]I'm hoping that all of these fights come off in a timely fashion. With DK involved it doesn't seem likely that Stiverne will face Wilder this year - they've already made up some b.s. excuse about Bernie being injured. If Stiverne-Wilder doesn't get made this year and maybe ha...
