Shaw: Angulo Will Fight Margarito, Even With The Plaster

By Rick Reeno

If a potential fight between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito falls apart, for any reason, promoter Gary Shaw advised BoxingScene.com that junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo is ready, willing, and able to fight Margarito in any location.

Taking a dig at Margarito's past problems, Shaw told BoxingScene he is so confident that Angulo would win the all-Mexican showdown, the New Jersey based promoter would allow Margarito to use plaster of Paris in his gloves.

The plaster of Paris reference pertains to the incident from January 24, 2009 - when hard inserts, containing a plaster-like substance, were discovered in Margarito's hand wraps prior to a scheduled fight with Shane Mosley. The incident led to the California State Athletic Commission revoking Margarito's license for a period of one year.

"Alfredo Angulo will fight anyone....Margarito or [Miguel] Cotto or [Julio Cesar] Chavez Jr. We would love the Margarito fight. He can have the plaster if he fights Angulo. My dog snacks on plaster for breakfast. I'll put it to you like this, we won't send anyone to the dressing room to watch his hands get wrapped," Shaw told BoxingScene.com.
Yeah, I like Angulo. The man reminds me a lot of Cotto. He's stoic, ambitious and has knockout power. I agree, Daliva, I think he should drop the collar thing. It debases him.
I thought the same thing when I…
