Shannon Briggs: record, next fight and profile →
Former heavyweight world champion Shannon Briggs, who trained Youtube star Logan Paul for his grudge match with KSI, is furious with referee Jack Reiss' decision to deduct two points from his boxer in the fourth round.
Shannon Briggs believes KSI is in for a rude awakening Saturday night. The former WBO heavyweight champion contends that Logan Paul is a completely different fighter from the man KSI fought to a majority draw in their six-rounder 14 months ago. That’ll result, according to Paul’s trainer, in his fighter breaking down KSI in their cruiserweight rematch at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Shannon Briggs has taken his “Let’s Go Champ” chant to another level. The former WBO heavyweight champion claimed in an interview with Sky Sports that Logan Paul could contend for “a real title shot” within three to five years. According to Briggs, who has trained Paul for his rematch against KSI on Saturday night, Paul plans to continue his boxing career after defeating his rival in their main event at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Shannon Briggs understandably has taken a lot of flak for predicting Logan Paul could become a heavyweight champion within five years. The 24-year-old Paul, a social media star, has one amateur boxing match on his resume. That six-round bout was contested at cruiserweight, versus another completely inexperienced opponent, and it resulted in a majority draw.
LOS ANGELES—The six degrees of separation for Shannon Briggs and Logan Paul can be traced back to Paolo Moreno. Briggs first met Moreno in Los Angeles nearly 24 years ago in Hollywood. They became fast friends that day and even partied together later that evening at a nightclub. They’ve since developed such a friendship that Moreno was Briggs’ best man at the former heavyweight champion’s wedding.
The phrase “let’s go champ!” will likely be uttered more times leading up to the rematch between Logan Paul and KSI than the total number of combined punches thrown between both fighters in their fight on Nov. 9 in Los Angeles.

Anthony Joshua had a special guest at the New York leg of his three city media tour, which the British superstar took part in to promote the rematch with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz. On June 1, Ruiz dropped Joshua four times to secure a seventh round stoppage and captured the unified crown at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Anthony Joshua received advice from the most unlikely of characters, former world champion Shannon Briggs. For reasons unknown, Briggs crashed a New York City press conference to promote the anticipated rematch between Joshua and IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz.
Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs believes that he would have certainly derailed a potential fight between David Haye and Tony Bellew. Briggs and Haye were in talks to fight each other back in 2016. As part of their discussions, Briggs fought on Haye's undercard in May 2016. Both of them scored early knockouts, to set the stage for a potential showdown in the fall.
