Promoter Pepe Gomez of Cancun Boxing is going to pursue a title fight between Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson (25-2, 23KOs) and WBC super featherweight champion Gamaliel "Platano" Diaz (37-9-2, 17KOs).

According to sources, Gomez and Teiken Boxing had an agreement to do a fight in the coming months between Thompson and champion Takahiro Aoh. The champion was going to take what his handlers felt was a "safe voluntary defense" on Saturday in Japan. In a huge upset, Diaz won a twelve round decision over Aoh to capture the title.

Thompson, ranked as the number one contender by the WBC at super featherweight, also fought on Saturday. He stopped Luis Armando 'Tucu' Juαrez in five rounds.

Thompson would've gone to Japan as no way Oah goes 2 MX...vs Diaz very winnable, Gomez backed by Schaefer&GBP & TV $$ could swing it but no large venues in Cancun, most under 5 k, xecept at the Park Xcaret, I believe...MX City a better location...
