Promoter Pepe Gómez of Cancun Boxing has confirmed that Sergio “Yeyo” Thompson inked his signature for the WBC super featherweight title against current champion Takashi Miura on August 17th in Cancun.
Yeyo (27-2, 25 KO), who defeated a former world champion Jorge Linares, has signed the contract for the fight against Miura (25-2-2, 19 KO), who recently conquered the WBC title over Gamaliel Díaz.
"We already have signed the contract and the fight against Miura is set for August 17 in Cancun” Pepe Gomez said.
By far the hardest part of the negotiation was to convice Miura to fight outside his country.
“It was hard to convince them to fight in Mexico but it's already arranged This is a great opportunity and a fantastic fight for Thompson to become world champion,” stressed Pepe Gomez.
