This past Saturday at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, middleweight champion Sergio Martinez knocked out Sergiy Dzinziruk in eight rounds to retain his crown. He secured the impressive win without his trainer, Gabriel Sarmiento. Martinez was instead handled by Sarmiento's brother, Pablo.

No reason was provided for Sarmiento's absence, but BoxingScene.com has received information from INTERPOL (International Criminal Police Organization) that Sarmiento was arrested on March 4th by the U.S. Marshals Service. Sarmiento is wanted in his native Spain for aggravated battery.

Sarmineto was unable to work the corner of Martinez because he is currently being held in Los Angeles pending extradition to Spain. INTERPOL Washington, INTERPOL Madrid, Office of International Affairs and the U.S. Marshals Service collaborated during the investigation.
