WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez said some recent comments which he gave in an interview, regarding the legendary Carlos Monzon, were misunderstood and taken out of context. Monzon held the middleweight crown for 7 years and defended it 14 times. He passed away in 1995. Most regard him as the greatest fighter to come out of Argentina.

"When I was asked if I would have beaten Monzon, I replied that I always fight to win against anyone who is in front of me, and [to beat me the opponent would have] to kill me and put me in a wooden crate. It doesn't matter if the opponent was Superman, the Incredible Hulk, King Kong, [Mike] Tyson or Monzon. I was going to try to win. Monzon was my idol, I had a poster of him in my room," Martinez stated.

So what if Sergio did disrespect Monzon? He was a woman beating murderer and no one should forget that. But I must admit that I may be a bit biased and may still hold a grudge. Because Carlos did beat one of my favorite fighters when I was a kid in Nino Bevenuti.

I very much doubt he was trying to disrespect Monzon in any way. Besides, what's he suppose to say? "I'm good, but Monzon will beat me easily"???
What is it with this motherfucker and talking shit about great middleweight champions? First Chavez and now Monzon. Is it because they don't fight enough goat-farmers from Eastern Europe, or part-time British janitors for Martinez's taste?
Greatness!!! http://media....
