Sergio Martinez Says Injuries Fully Healed, Now Training

By Ryan Burton

Sergio Martinez is thrilled that his next fight is going to be in his home country of Argentina.  Martinez last fought in Argentina in February, 2002 when he defeated Francisco Mora in Buenos Aires.  The new WBC middleweight champion expects a packed house when he faces Martin Murray on April 27th.

It will be 11 years since I last fought in Argentina.  I am very excited to be able to fight there again.  Knowing that I will be fighting in front of 55,000 fans in a stadium is a great feeling," Martinez revealed.

Martinez said that he has recovered from his November surgery on his ankle and knee and that he is looking forward to getting back in the ring.

"My surgery went well and I am already training.  It is such a great feeling to end the year as a world champion again.  I want all the fans to know that I will be back in April to defend my title and fight for the fans.  I hope all the fans out there have a great holiday," Martinez told BoxingScene.com.
