| Sergio Martinez: Chavez, Biggest Coward in Boxing History
|
|
By Jhonny Gonzalez Middleweight contender Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs) has fired back at WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. In a recent interview with Mexican press, Chavez sent a message to Martinez, telling the Argentine boxer that he "wasn't scared" of him and only doing his championship duties by facing the number one ranked challenger, Marco Antonio Rubio, on February 4th in Texas. Martinez had called Chavez a coward for not honoring the WBC's mandatory order, which called for the two of them to fight. Chavez claimed Martinez was "more interested in his popular Chavez name," and not actually interested in winning the world title. Martinez tore into Chavez during an appearance on Radio Belgrano AM 950 in Argentina. "Nobody will forget that Chavez was the biggest coward in the history of boxing. I want the public recognition that will make me go down in history. Nobody will remember him. I will always look for challenges, regardless of whether I have to move up or move down in weight. 99.9% of the top fighters have made the mistake of not being motivated to continue boxing. The hard part is staying motivated every day," Martinez said. Tags: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr , Sergio Martinez |

[QUOTE=Pugly!]If Sergio was a natural 154 pound fight, he would have fought Dzindz there, rather than risk fighting at a weight he isn't "comfortable", or "natural" at. . . After the Pavlik fight, he could have went back down to 154, effectively remaining the WBC champion in the class. . .

[QUOTE=chiguy91]gotta focus on macklin, after that then start talking again. hope the macklin bout is exciting and ends in an impressive fashion for martinez. the barker fight sucked.
chavez/rubio should be good as well, hope rubio wins but doubt it. as for this whole mess, both are at 160 and w... |

Sinaloakid, Martinez was the mandatory. That goes above #1 contender. Martinez waited for him, they put a purse bid, it was demanded by the wbc (they've obviously taken their word back...), etc. Martinez went to 160 for said challenges and fought the man who beat the man. Martinez has had to ... |
