WBO/IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (28-0-1, 25KOs) is ready and waiting for a future showdown with Andre Ward (28-0, 15KOs), who is recognized as the current king of the super middleweight division.
Ward return to the ring last month and stopped Paul Smith in nine rounds. The fight was contested at a catch-weight of 172-pounds. Ward is considering the possibility of moving up to the light heavyweight division.
"He's a fighter on a high level. He's an Olympic champion. He's the best right now in the super middleweight division. Right now I'm in the light heavyweight division and Andre Ward is still in super middleweight. This is a sport. I'm open to fight anyone, I'm not [Adonis] Stevenson," Kovalev said.
Kovalev's promoter, Kathy Duva of Main Events, has had several positive conversation with Roc Nation Sports, who have Ward. She feels very good about the possibility of the fight taking place at some point in 2016.
