Sebastian Zbik: record, next fight and profile →
Earlier today BoxingScene.com's Rick Reeno reported that the middleweight clash for the WBC title, between challenger Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and champion Sebastian Zbik, will take place in Los Angeles. It was previously reported that Mexico and Las Vegas were the leading candidates to host the fight.
Middleweight Julio César Chávez Jr. is getting his plans ready for the training camp to prepare for his title shot on June 4. Chavez will take on WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik of Germany. When the subject was approached, Chavez threw a few barbs in the direction of his Mexican rival, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who won the WBC 154-pound title last Saturday when he beat Matthew Alvarez.
BoxingScene.com was advised that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.'s (42-0, 30KOs) upcoming fight with WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10KOs) is going to take place in Los Angeles, California. Several venues are being considered for the fight. The fight was previously going to land in either Mexico or Las Vegas. HBO is going to televise the fight.
Trainer Freddie Roach is hoping to get Julio César Chávez Jr. (42-0, 30KOs) in training camp by April 2. Roach doesn't want Chavez to be rusty when he challenges Sebastian Zbik for the WBC middleweight title on June 4. After a career of having at least three bouts per year, Chavez only had a single bout in 2010 and so far he's had a single fight in 2011. He won a ten round decision win in January over Billy Lyell. Roach plans to increase his workload to make it the toughest camp of Julio's career.
As previously reported, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will not return on March 19 as expected, and heads directly to a world title fight on June 4 in either Cancun, Toluca or Las Vegas, against unbeaten WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik of Germany. Chavez's co-promoter, Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions, is confident about Julio's ability to capture the green belt. Beltran expects a very, very hard fight. The traing camp is very important for this battle. Beltran says Julio must put in the work with Freddie Roach to win this fight.
Fernando Beltran, owner of Zanfer Promotions and co-promoter of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0, 30KOs), says the unbeaten Mexican star is likely going to bypass a planned fight on March 19 with David Medina (22-2, 10KOs). Chavez will head directly to a title fight on June 4 with WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10KOs) of Germany. Earlier reports suggest the fight is going to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but other sources are claiming the fight could still end up in Mexico. Both American networks, Showtime and HBO, are interested in televising the bout.
The son of the legend, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KOs), informed BoxingScene.com/NotiFight.com that he would face undefeated Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KOs) of Germany for the undefeated WBC middleweight title on June 4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. In Julio's own words, his promoters Bob Arum of Top Rank and Fernando Beltran of Zanfer informed him of the date and the venue. He also mentioned that he's not sure if the scheduled fight on March 19 with David Medina is going to push through.
BoxingScene.com was advised that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0, 30KOs) will likely challenge WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10KOs) on June 11. Both networks, HBO and Showtime, are interested in picking up the fight. I hear Cancun is being explored as a possible site because both networks are willing to go there.
According to Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0, 30KOs) will remain on course to a May clash with WBC champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10KOs). Two weeks ago in Culiacan, Mexico, Chavez won a unimpressive ten round decision over fringe contender Billy Lyell. Chavez's trainer, Freddie Roach, and conditioning coach Alex Ariza, were not happy with his performance.
There's no such thing as being an accomplice to legalized murder which is I guess why promoter Bob Arum would have no qualms about throwing underwhelming Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. into a world middleweight title unification bout against Argentine terror Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez.
